FRISCO – Stars forward Jason Spezza will return to the lineup at Minnesota. Spezza, who refused to comment on his status, missed the previous two games because of illness. He participated in optional practice Friday and spent about one hour on the ice.
In the last 12 games, Spezza has one goal with four points and a minus-8 rating.
Spezza will replace Martin Hanzal, who did not make the trip to St. Paul, Minn., because of soreness in his repaired back. Montgomery expects to have Hanzal available for Sunday’s home game against the New York Islanders.
Forward Brett Ritchie will also be in the lineup against the Wild. Montgomery said he likes Ritchie’s “physical presence and size” against Minnesota. Montgomery had not determined who will sit to clear a spot for Ritchie.
Briefly: The weekend goalie rotation will be Ben Bishop against the Wild and Anton Khudobin against the Islanders. Bishop has lost his last three starts against Minnesota and is 2-4 despite a .930 save percentage lifetime versus the Wild.
— Minnesota’s Matt Dumba, who leads league defensemen in goals with 12, will not play because of an upper-body injury that will require surgery.
— Denis Gurianov, who got time with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn on the top line against Chicago, has an assist in two of his three games since returning from the minors.
